1:72 Spitfire Mk Vb

Having recently learned of a Great Uncle who was Spitfire pilot and sadly shot down in 1942 over the channel, I’ve started the process of painting the mk Vb he was flying on that day. I added an airbrush to my collection of hobby kit and I figured I should take it for a test run first and try a whole bunch of new techniques (for me at least) using it.

I decided to pick up a 1:72 Tamyia mk Vb to experiment on. I’m incredibly happy with the results of airbrushing. It was the first time I’d used the airbrush for more than just base coating miniatures. I also tried varnishes to seal and protect the paint and oils for the first time as well to weather it.

I’m feeling comfortable (enough) with the new processes I’m now concurrently building two 1:48 Spits, my Great Uncles which is a Tamyia and then an Eduard mk IX as a Christmas gift for a friend. More on those later!
