Back (B)log 1 – Bag the Hun

While Lucius and I have played a bit of Wings of Glory, we wanted a better simulation of flights of aircraft in combat and so landed upon Bag the Hun (BtH) by TFL. Blood Red Skies aircraft were on sale, I had some Wings of Glory already and other 1:200 aircraft were available online easily enough (but needed bases) so we charged ahead.

Swallowed the Anchor

Well, over 20 years in uniform I have released from the Canadian Armed Forces. I originally joined to serve my country, gain life experience, and have an adventure. I’m pleased to say that I met all three goals and thoroughly enjoyed my time in uniform.

That said, life’s twists and turns can be unexpected. I did not forsee the adventures I was to have, nor the injury that ended my first career. My left arm is not quite up to snuff so it is on to new adventures and a different part of this journey.

I am pleased to report that I am going back to school and have started work as a civilian. I’m feeling like I have my feet under me again so will be posting a back-(b)log of posts from the past several months as I have been gaming, just not posting. To correct that I will be establishing a routine for posting or at least reviewing/approving comments.

All in all, exciting times! I’ve got newly painted Italians who performed well in battle until they didn’t as well as other games to write about.

More soon!

Quick Comparison: Blood Red Skies and Wings of Glory

A (long) while ago, someone asked about Wings of Glory (WoG)and Blood Red Skies (BRS) and how their planes compare. Well, Lucius painted up some BRS planes and so here they are. They are both nominally 1:200 and frankly I think they work well together.

The quality of WoG planes is lower than BRS, but their painting is good enough and you could touch them up. I haven’t yet.

We’re going to rebase all of our planes and do a floor-based version of Bag the Hun as we have loads of 1:200 planes. I’ll let you know how that goes as we slowly paint up planes and get the hexes and floor mat ready!

Not Gone!

Still here! It’s coming up on year since I’ve posted and that is really far too long. There are many reasons but suffice it to say that things have calmed down a fair bit.

We’ve played some “The One Ring” 2nd edition, as well as a few games of Chain of Command and even my first game of Battletech. Overall, though, there has been a lot of life getting in the way of fun.

Over the next week I’ll clean up the blog and also finally post some long-promised comparisons of Blood Red Skies and Wings of Glory planes. Then onto more routine gaming!
