While Lucius and I have played a bit of Wings of Glory, we wanted a better simulation of flights of aircraft in combat and so landed upon Bag the Hun (BtH) by TFL. Blood Red Skies aircraft were on sale, I had some Wings of Glory already and other 1:200 aircraft were available online easily enough (but needed bases) so we charged ahead.
The challenge was the size of game mat. Most games of BtH are played at the 1:600 scale it seems. Our planes were significantly bigger. I reached out to Deep Cut Studio and they were able to print a very large (7′ x 10′) mat for me with 2″ hexes (needed to keep separation between planes – though some aircraft like a B-24 do exceed hex size in wingspan it seemed like the best fit). We figured that was the biggest mat we could get into my basement area – and it does fit, just!
Deep Cut Studio delivered! It’s a great mat and they were incredibly responsive and very reasonably priced.
We’ve played one game with 2″ printed counters to learn the rules. It’s a great game and we’ll hopefully be able to play with some painted planes soon.
